Remove one king and one ace from each suit from the deck. Place the kings face up in a row on the table, place the aces face up nearward of them. These are the foundations. Place the remaining cards in stacks of 8, all face up. Place four stacks directly farward of the kings, four stacks directly nearward of the aces, two stacks to the right of the foundations, and two stacks to the left of the foundations. These stacks are the tableau.
The king foundations are built down in suit, K->A. The ace foundations are built up in suit, A->K. The top cards of each tableau pile are available for play. Available tableau cards can be placed onto the foundations when appropriate, or they can be moved to the top of another tableau pile. Tableau cards must be of neighboring rank (i.e. a 4 or a 6 could be played on a 5), irrespective of suit. The ranks are not circular, so only a queen can be placed on a king and only a two on an ace. In vacant tableau spaces, only an ace or a king can be played.
Cards can be moved from the foundations back to the tableau, and moved from one foundation pile to another as long as all rules are followed.
The game is won once all cards are built onto the foundations. If you have no moves left, you are allowed one redeal. To redeal, pick up the tableau piles in reverse order that they were dealt (hold pile 12 face up, then place pile 11 face up beneath it, etc.), and place piles of 8 into the tableau spots. It is likely that the last pile will be short and/or there will be vacant tableau spaces.
The game is lost once there are no more moves available and the cards have already been redealt.
