Pyramid Solitaire

Setup

Deal a tableau in a pyramid shape, of seven rows. The first row has one card, the second row has two cards, etc. All cards are placed face up, but place each row halfway on top of the one before it, centered so that all numbers are visible, and that each card is touching two cards of the row before it (except the cards on the edges of the row, which only touch one. Set aside the remaining cards, face down, to form the stock.

Play

The goal is to clear all cards away from the tableau. To clear cards, they must be matched in pairs whose total value equals thirteen (see table below). Kings match with no card and can be cleared as soon as they are available. Cards in the tableau which have no others on top of them (they must be fully free, not just having one of the two cards above them cleared) are considered available. Cleared cards are set aside, out of play.

Three cards at a time can be turned over, face up, from the stock into the waste pile. The topmost card of the waste pile is also available. If the stock only has one or two cards remaining, those cards can be flipped onto the waste pile as well. If the stock is depleted, flip the wastepile over to form the new stock. Do not shuffle.

Endgame

The game is won when all cards from the tableau have been cleared. The player may keep going through the stock as many times as they wish.

The game is lost when there are no moves remaining, and the stock has been flipped through all the way without any moves made.
