ace
- The card in a standard deck marked "A." Typically has a value of 1 or as the highest-ranking card.
black card
- A card of either clubs or spades
black lady
- (Hearts): The queen of spades, worth 13 points.
build
- (Cassino): A play which involves combining cards to be captured later.
capture
- (Cassino): To take cards from the table using a card from one's hand.
crib
- (Cribbage): An extra hand given to the dealer, composed of cards from other players
discard
- A play that involves removing a card from active use

deuce
big cassino
- (Cassino): the 10 of diamonds, which scores two points
cassino
- (Cassino): a card that scores points on its own, that is not an ace. The 2 of spades and the 10 of diamonds.
- A specific card game, the only "fishing"-type game widely played in the English-speaking world.

flip card
- (Cribbage): The card flipped from the top of the deck, for use as a common card in both players' hands

- (Cribbage): When the dealer flips a jack from the top of the deck, they score 2 points for "his heels."
jack
- The card marked "J". Usually ranks between the 10 and Q.
joker
- Most decks have two cards marked "joker". They are only used in a few games, often as wild cards.
king
- The card marked "K". Usually ranks above the Q, sometimes below A.
little cassino
- (Cassino): The two of spades, worth one point.
lurch
- (Cassino): To win a game while the opponent has less than 6 points.
